Sigh. Durant Wins ROY
Posted by: Micah Hart on May 1, 2008 at 8:08PM EST

Well, the inevitable news finally came out today, as Kevin Durant was named NBA Rookie of the Year. The voting wasn't particularly close, with Durant gathering 545 points to Al Horford's 390, and 90 1st place votes to Al's 30.

I still maintain Horford should have won, but I suppose there are larger injustices in the world. Besides, if you ask Al whether he'd rather have the trophy or be participating in the most thrilling series of the NBA Playoffs, I'm pretty sure I know what his answer would be.

But, one last time, let's reflect on Al's rookie season and the fun we had trying to promote his candidacy for ROY.

LOOK AT THAT....THAT'Z A SHAME THAT SOME THAT ACHEIVED ALL THAT DIDN'T EVEN GET ROOKIE OF THE YEAR.WHAT WERE THEY LOOKIN FOR? I GUESS THE PERSON WHO SCORE THE MOST POINTS... YEAH THAT'S IT. CUZ THAT'S THE ONLY THING KEVIN DURANT LEADS IN FOR ROOKIES. OTHER THAN THAT AL HORFORD LEADS IN EVERYTHING ELSE. I GUESS THEY DON'T REALIZE REAL TALENT WHEN THEY SEE IT. SEE IT RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEIR FACE,BUT JUST IN MY MIND I THINK AL HORFORD SHOULD HAVE WON THE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD. JUST IN MY OPINION. JUST TO LET AL HORFORD KNOW THE NBA DON'T KNOW NOTHING BOUT JUDGING SOMEONE ON WHAT AWARD THEY WIN.BUT I STILL LOVE YOU AL HORFORD KEEP DONING WHAT U DO.....ASHTON

This is the most ridiculous injustice of the year. Al was CLEARLY the better all-around player. Al Horford is the smartest collegiate basketball player I have seen in a very long time, and I knew he would be a great professional. He WILL be the defensive player of the year in the next few years, and when he develops a consistent mid-range jumper, he will be a complete player. I cannot wait to see him next year. Go Gators!
By the way, my wife and I are the ones that made the "got horford?" and "ATL loves Horford" signs during the playoffs. In-house cameras, TNT, and Fox Sports showed the signs a lot of love.
