Report: Hawks Trade For Bibby
Posted by: Micah Hart on February 16, 2008 at 5:03PM EST

What a day for the Hawks. There have been rumors flying around all day here in New Orleans, and though it's not official yet (it's now official!) Sekou Smith is reporting the Hawks have reached an agreement with the Sacramento Kings to acquire point guard Mike Bibby in exchange for Tyronn Lue, Anthony Johnson, Lorenzen Wright, and Shelden Williams.

Let me say first that I will be sad to see these four guys go, as each brought something to the table for the Hawks and were good teammates and professionals during their respective tenures in the ATL. I wish each of them the best of luck in Sacramento and beyond.

Having said that, this is a terrific deal for the Hawks. Mike Bibby is everything you could want for the Hawks in a point guard. He is a terrific scorer, capable of creating shots for his teammates and for himself. He is used to playing an up-tempo style of ball, so he should be instrumental in helping the Hawks get out and run on the break, which we all know is the key to the team's success.

Also of importance, Bibby has a ton of playoff experience and is a late-game killer. He has hit several big shots throughout his years in Sacramento, and I think we'll all feel very comfortable with the ball in his hands in late-game situations. He will provide a perfect complement to Joe Johnson in the Hawks backcourt, helping to solve a big issue for the Hawks in terms of trying to prevent teams for double- and triple-teaming JJ.

To be able to acquire a player with his amount of talent and not have to give up one of the Hawks core of young players (Josh, Josh, Al, and Joe) is phenomenal. After the trade for JJ, I'd rate this right now as easily the second best move of Billy Knight's career.

Sacramento is out of the playoff race in the West and focusing on rebuilding, and they get a nice bit of salary cap relief with Lue, Wright, and AJ all in the last year of their contracts. Shelden Williams never really found his niche in a year and a half in Atlanta, but perhaps a change of scenery will give him the chance to make his mark.

Bibby dealt with some injuries earlier this year, and his contract is fairly hefty at 26 million over the next two years (though the Hawks are only on the hook for a prorated amount of that this season), but there is risk in any deal you make. This one was a no-brainer for the Hawks, who have to feel pretty good about themselves going into the season's second half.

AJ, T-Lue, Ren, and Shel - we wish you guys the best.

Mike Bibby? Welcome to Atlanta.

Update: It's official. Sacramento also gets the Hawks 2008 2nd-rounder in the deal

Update: Here are some money quotes from Joe about the deal, courtesy of Sekou Smith's piece in the AJC:

"This is another huge step for us," Johnson said Saturday while preparing to play in Sunday's 57th NBA All-Star Game. "You're talking about a guy who can make shots and can run a team. He embodies all the things we've wanted in a veteran point guard and he's also a guy that's known for taking and making big shots.

"And you can never have too many guys like that in the NBA. As tough as it is to see guys like Lue, A.J., 'Ren and Shelden leave, we all realize that this is a business and decisions are made and you make the best of things and move on. But there's no doubt we're getting a guy that can help make us better."

Great trade, I hate to lose AJ, but now Joe will be freed up and we get a powerful offensive weapon. Look out playoffs!!

Great Trade!!!!! Lookout playoffs!!!!!

Posted by: Joe on February 16, 2008 5:57PM EST
Although we lost a veteran leader in AJ if we get Bibby's contract locked up the hawks are a team to beat in da East for a while...Get J-Smoov locked up 2

Posted by: randy on February 16, 2008 5:59PM EST
THIS IS AWESOME!! We gave up practically nothing and got Bibby. We not have no excuse for not making the Playoffs!! GOO HAWKS!!

Great trade but I hate to see Lue go. He is a super guy on and off the court. I wish him the best!!!!!

I am a huge Kings fan and an even bigger Mike Bibby fan. I will truly miss him as a King, he gave us so much of himself over his career in Sactown.
However, I live in the south and would love to be a fan of a southern team for a change so my loyalties may follw Bibby to Atlanta.

Posted by: BJ on February 16, 2008 6:03PM EST
Nice trade...now who do we have to fill out the roster? 4 for 1 means we have three spots to fill!

Posted by: FL on February 16, 2008 6:07PM EST
I think this is an outstanding trade, though, we should have already had a PG (know what I mean). Hopefully the team will start to show a bit more consistency. Good Move..

Posted by: Tara on February 16, 2008 6:08PM EST
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE TRADE ON THE KINGS PART!! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING TRADING BIBBY?!?! HE IS THE REASON WHY THERE ARE SO MANY KINGS FANS!!! THIS WAS A HORRIBLE HORRIBLE TRADE!

This is the happyest day of my life ATL HAWKS PLAYOFFS this brings back the good old days GO HAWKS GO

Posted by: Anonymous on February 16, 2008 6:09PM EST
Ive been teling basketball fans all year long, we need a point guard (veteran) that can create their own shot also with the ability to create his teammates open shots. Hopefully Bibby is the answer. I love Acie Laws' game and believe this will be the perfect grooming situation for him, because quite frankly i think he needs more playing time. He will be able to share the load now that two point guards are gone and Claxton still nursing an injury.

Posted by: jj on February 16, 2008 6:11PM EST
Billy Knight is starting to come around. Did taht trade really happen. Mike Bibby, when he has talent around is in the same league as the best of the best point gaurds. We got him for three guys who will be gone after this year adn Sheldon Williams. Too the same extint as the Pau Gasol trade. Pau may be better than Bibby, but Crittenton hs a much more promising future than Shelden. What a trade. Watch out for the hawks.

Posted by: Hosemaze on February 16, 2008 6:11PM EST
Nice addition I haven't been to this since pre-draft when i gave reasons for drafting (Al) over Yi, Conley with the third pick but a consistant shooter is still needed like Mike Miller. Maybe Salim, Zaza and a future first in 2009 will get it done. Gotta find some low cost big men Like Tractor and anyone else to fill out roster

Posted by: SS on February 16, 2008 6:19PM EST
yea, atlanta had their chances at three realli good point gaurds in their drafts but they passed it all. well they seem to have gotten better, but they aint gonna beat the raps. Im a toronto raptors fan, but i was a major fan of tyronne lue he played his as* off for the hawks, he was a raptors killer, but now that he is gone dunt think fast, cuz the raps are still sick and they gonna beat the hawks anyday of the week. Raps all day everday!!!!!

Posted by: Tip on February 16, 2008 6:19PM EST
I hope Salim gets more playing time now!!!

Posted by: Alessandro on February 16, 2008 6:29PM EST
Fantastic trade!!! Bibby is what we need to back to playoffs!!!

Posted by: haha sac on February 16, 2008 6:30PM EST
haha were play the kings next week....
we will see who got the better trade

Posted by: Chris Johnson on February 16, 2008 6:32PM EST
I wanted to do Sheldon and Marvin Williams for Ron Artest which would have been 7 mill for 7 mill. This would have given Horford some needed help inside. And Artest owned Detroit at Indiana and the Kings beat them everytime this year. But I like the trade. I just need to see more out of Bibby. Haven't seen him in the All-Star game or any SportsCenter highlights recently. I guess we have to find some big people fast from the D-league or somewhere. All we have is Al and Zsa Zsa. This should ignite and excite Bibby to play with Joe, josh, and josh.

Posted by: GC on February 16, 2008 6:39PM EST
GREAT JOB ATLANTA SPIRIT!!!! YOU'RE GOING TO PUMP SOME LOYALTY BACK TO OUR CITY!!!!! AJ, LUE, YOU WILL BE MISSED THE MOST!!!! BIBBY WELCOME TO ATLANTA WERE THE REAL PLAYERS NEED TO PLAY!!!!!

Posted by: Geoff T. on February 16, 2008 6:42PM EST
i hate to see aj and t lue but bibby was a good player and the experience he will still be good joe will not have to create his own shot cant wait to see bibby in the blue and red

Posted by: Anonymous on February 16, 2008 6:47PM EST
dis trade it good but not as the steal the lakers got for Pau

Posted by: Mike R. on February 16, 2008 6:48PM EST
T-Lue!!!! anyone but tyronn! and Mr. Potata' Head AJ! I'm gonna miss those guys! I do like Bibby a lot though. Best of luck Tyronn, your still my favorite player.

Posted by: W. Allen on February 16, 2008 7:26PM EST
My only concern with this trade is A. We do not have a draft pick in the first two rounds and B. This eats up a lot of cap room next year, so where is the money going to be to resign the Josh's. Still love the deal.

Posted by: Kirt Abeleda on February 16, 2008 7:38PM EST
I'm from London, England. I've been Sacramento fan since 2000 basically because of Mike BIbby. My loyalties have been with the kigs because of his play and ever since the trade rumors ahve been thrown about I've decided I wil follow him just as much as the Kings. let's jsut say the ATL is now my East team.

Posted by: rick on February 16, 2008 7:49PM EST
So glad to see TLue go. With him and ball hog Joe Johnson in the back court there was no involvement of the other guys. Question is if Joe is still the first option will Bibby ever get a chance to shoot. If Bibby ends up dribbling and looking for his shot (like T Lue does and did) and then looking for Joe we will be back to square one with less salary cap. AJ was capable of spreading the ball and creating for all the guys. We will see. Someone has to teach JJ how to pass before the double team get there. Someone also has to teach JJ how to get his shot off in off after a screen wihtout stopping to let his defender catch up so he can measure him and then try to back in. At least Bibby may bring a shooter who can shoot in rhythm cause when JJ stars his backing in crap other teams don't even respect our outside shooters cause Knight didn't draft any other than Marvin who could get off something other than a set shot. We'll see. Knight has already missed and could have had Gasol, Aramie, Chris Paul and Brandon Roy. Where are Knights outside shooters? Where is his true center? He is a bust and Woodson is a very slow learner offensively. Hell he played Lue all the time. Go fiure. JJ and Lue are half court player that look for their own shots on a running team...come on Mike

Posted by: anonymous on February 16, 2008 7:59PM EST
Great player to add to the mix, but I wish T Lue could have remained a Hawk. He's adds a spark, and I've seen him be a great coach during games to the younger guys.

Posted by: ED on February 16, 2008 8:26PM EST
we gave up a bunch of bums for an established PG, how could any hawks fans not like this. i do, however, think that shelden could have been a defensive force for the hawks, either way, i love the trade. josh, al, joe, and marvin should profit from this immesearulbly

Posted by: so lo on February 16, 2008 8:36PM EST
great trade. Now lets get a new coach

Posted by: Hawks season tixs holder on February 16, 2008 8:36PM EST
I think this is a great trade for ATL. JJ needed a real point guard to handle the ball during the end of the game. Bibby is a great point guard which should help out Josh Smith. Also, since we let AJ and Lue go on 1st round pick Acie Law will get some burn. Which is good because he should be our starting PG after the 2009 season, when Bibby's contract runs out. Way to go management. Now lets look at acquiring Mike Miller from Memphis. 2009 first round pick, Zaza, and Salim. Dont stop now Mr. Knight keep working to make this team better.

Posted by: anonymous on February 16, 2008 8:40PM EST
That was stupid to let T Lue and Aj go like that. Four people for one man that is crazy.Best of luck to all.Hope they make it to the play off with this trade.

Posted by: aaron on February 16, 2008 9:10PM EST
this is exactly what the hawks have needed for years, a dependable, smart, veteran PG to lead all these young, athletic guys. bibby will fit into this system perfectly, and the jump in ball movement should help us find alot more open shots/wins. i hope they can fill the other 3 roster spots with some decent guys, because this team is going to the playoffs now.

THANK YOU JESUS, this is the best day of the year for me, Now lets Shock the world ATL! Love yo game AJ since the College of Charleston, GOODLUCK!

GO HAWKS !

AWESOME finally a person that will have an immeadiate impact on the team He will be able to lead the hawks into the playoffs GO HAWKS!!!

Posted by: mac on February 16, 2008 9:39PM EST
uhhh chris johnson who cares if mike bibby is never in the highlights? joe johnson is rarely in the highlights unless its some buzzer beater and hes obviously good

Posted by: Trueblood on February 16, 2008 9:48PM EST
Kings are looking at things from a luxury tax standpoint. With their roster with Bibby intact for next year, they would've been paying the lux tax. With Bibby off the books and only Williams being on the payroll for next year among the players traded from Atlanta, they will be way under the threshold. Also, this deal gives them some extra depth this year. That is necessary considering how injury riddled they've been.

Posted by: Sherry on February 16, 2008 9:49PM EST
I am a resident of Sacramento and have been a loyal King's fan and season ticket holder for many years. I will really miss Mke Bibby and what he has meant to us for the past 7 years. I trust Geoff Petrie and his judgment with this move. He has never let us down here in Sactown. My only hope is that Mike will finally step up and be a real leader for the Hawks team. Count yourselves very fortunate Atlanta. You have a great player now! Just don't count us out as we re-build. We have the greatest fans (and the loudest) in the NBA!

Posted by: william goodlin on February 16, 2008 10:13PM EST
IM A DIE HARD KINGS FAN AND IM GOING 2 MISS BIBBY BUT KINGS NEED 2 MOVE ON WITH THAT AND MAKE THE BEST OF WHAT WE GOT,HOPE 4 PLAYOFFS AND MAYBE MORE NEXT YEAR!ITS BEEN AWHILE!GO KINGSSSSSSSS.....

Posted by: Travis on February 16, 2008 10:19PM EST
This is the worst day ever, I am a huge Kings fan and an even bigger Bibby fan. We got nothing in return not one of those players is any good, I'm pretty sure I'm better than Lue. I would of still been mad if we got someone like Horford but at least he has hope. Petrie just rolled over and died for us, thanks.

Posted by: Shotgun on February 16, 2008 10:42PM EST
I hate that we lost Lue, but I love the deal. But what happens when Al gets in foul trouble? Major minutes for Zaza and Solomon Jones? Sorry, I don't think those are the most solid of options.

Is it possible there could be something else in the works? Maybe nothing huge, but something for a veteran backup big?

Posted by: Anonymous on February 16, 2008 10:45PM EST
i'm smelling dynasty

Posted by: ATL on February 16, 2008 10:54PM EST
hat to see lue go
he really came through for us late in these last 10 games or so. bibby is a great player thought and im gald to see him here. i'm also glad that maybe now in the last poss. of the game joe wont take the whole other players off the court and drive to the hole and miss at the buzzer because he has lost us a few with that. i just wish maybe we traded salim and seen if that would have worked because i loved t-lue but still great trade.

Posted by: eparks on February 16, 2008 11:01PM EST
I'm just happy that Sheldon Wms is finally gone. Bibby has a good oppurtunity to make noise in the east. The Hawks might actually be for real with this move. I would like to see another good piece added before the trade deadline.

Posted by: dan ryan on February 16, 2008 11:19PM EST
I am a big HAWK fan who happens to live in California, ergo, I see the Kings in person and the HAWKS on TV. My "take" on the trade is that Bibby will get us into the playoffs this year. He makes all the other players BETTER. He is absolutely "unselfish". Having said that... the King's GM ,Jeff Petrie NEVER makes a bad trade...so Sacramento King fans you have a future star in Sheldon Williams. Dan Ryan

Posted by: Chris on February 16, 2008 11:49PM EST
Let be honest Sheldon has been a bust since he got here. Wright is just wrong. It hurts to see Lue AKA "The Closer" go because he has won many games for us. ANd AJ is just a solid vet, but we get both of these same qualities in one man. Hopefully this will also bring more fans to the games especially since their first home game is against Sacramento. "Sellout at Phillips" GO HAWKS. I love this

Posted by: Mike on February 16, 2008 11:49PM EST
If u claim to be a Hawks fan and you are typing on this website, don't be stupid and trash the team! Like the dude sayin J.J. and T-Lue sucks and all this crap. Remember JJ made the hawks good and T-Lue was the closer. Those two may have lost some buzzer games but won a lot more! don't trash your team and its current/former players. Thats not a real fan.

Posted by: UWG on February 16, 2008 11:59PM EST
dude.. its good... but we need to sign some more big men to get al some help down low. and as some one mentioned on here earlier i hope that we have enough cap space for the josh's bcuz bibby's set to make 21 million over the next two years and if this costs us either one of those players next season this trade definatly wasn't worth it unless we win the nba championship. those two are young players with alot more potiential than an ageing mike bibby. I think AJ was doing pretty well at the point for the team and if woodson could get law some more minutes i think it would boost his confiedence and we woulda been fine at the point. I woulda loved to see us get someone like a brad miller instead witch would of saved us probably a player and definatly some money not to mention making us a much better team then we are with bibby. Then maybe we could of used what we had left to go after a shooter like mike miller. Had those two things happened the hawks would be up there among the elite in the East. Maybe not as good as the celtics or pistons but definatly the raptors, magic, and cavaliers. GO HAWKS!!!

Posted by: Stefan on February 17, 2008 12:01AM EST
G: Mike Bibby
G Joe Johnson
F: Josh Smith
F: Marvin Williams
C: Al Horford

YES! YES! YES! This is the missing piece for the Hawks! This is exactly what we needed. Sad to see AJ and T Lue go, but im glad to see those scrubs Sheldon Williams and Lorenzen Wright go. I can smell it now! PLAYOFFS BABY!

Posted by: Larry Dixon on February 17, 2008 12:15AM EST
I would agree that this trade is great for the hawks team. Pau Gasol wouldn't help the hawks like mike bibby can and will. THE HAWKS HAVE NEEDED TO GET A POINT GAURD FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND NOW WE HAVE A GOOD ONE AND WE DIDN'T GIVE UP ANYONE WE COULDN'T REPLACE IN THE FREE AGENT MARKET!!

We didn't give up any of our core players to get an allstar talented Point gaurd in Mike Bibby. No longer will JJ have to dribble the ball up the court. Now JJ can run around picks like "rip hamilton" and bibby can find him for easy open shots. Well that's if coach woodson can draw up some good plays! @_@ I'm really hyped with this trade. Everyone say soooooo long to the "landlord" Sheldon Williams........errr......."THE SLUMLORD"!!!!!!! He was one of the worst draft picks in NBA history!

This move may have saved billy knight's and mike woodson's jobs this year. They should be the 5th or 4th best team in the east with this move IMO. The Hawks have the 2nd best backcourt in the eastern conference now! (only second to Detroit) Good luck to the home team! Mike bibby makes the Hawks a legit playoff team!

LET'S GO HAWKS!!!

P.S.- if the hawks get a 4th seed or higher in the playoff's BIBBY will be the MVP of the league IMO!

Posted by: vtk on February 17, 2008 12:19AM EST
YES!!! THIS IS AN AWESOME TRADE FOR THE HAWKS. T-LUE DID A LOT OF GOOD THINGS FOR THE CITY AND COMMUNITY AND HE WILL BE MISSED. SO, LET'S MOVE ON TO THE PLAYOFFS AND STAY FOCUSED !!!

Posted by: mohas on February 17, 2008 12:24AM EST
I am a huge kings fan. I'm amazed that Geoff Petrie would go through with this trade. Bibby was one of the KEY clutch players on this. I'M ESSENTIALLY SAYING THIS TRADE WAS VERY VERY VERY BAD. Beno is a great player, but will never give the kings the lift that they need. BIBBY RUNS THE TEAM. ARTEST NEEDS BIBBY. With him gone, im pretty sure the kings will go into a slump, which will have Artest gone for sure. HORRIBE MOVE BY GEOFF PETRIE, JUST HORRIBLE! The kings now have no potential all stars. Unless they can bust out a miracle trade, they have no future for the playoffs.

Posted by: Terrence0258 on February 17, 2008 12:44AM EST
Billy Knight has saved his job. This is about the best move he has made in his Atlanta tenure. Bibby isn't the kind of guy that can get double digit assist every night, but he provides the ability for us to consistently spread the floor with him and J.J. in the backcourt. A trade like this means the world for a team that is starving for shooters. Now if we could aquire one more guy to come of the bench, possibly a Wally Szczerbiak who can cosistently knock down the open shot we could easily be a 5th or 6th seed in a weak eastern conference.

Posted by: Geoff Petrie kiss my @$$ on February 17, 2008 12:50AM EST
ay yo geoff...are you an idiot???? i mean bibby needed to get traded...but this shizz?? are you freakin me???doooooddddddd....go home to your wife...pull out your @#$%..o wait u little @#$%^...you have a pussy...cattt

hi i lived here in vancouver and i've a big bibby fan, since he was a grizz and still love loved him in sacramento, i would say that this is a very very very bad move for sacramento, but very smart move for atlanta, so i can't wait to see mike play with smith and johnson I'M A HAWKS FAN NOW! SO KINGS EAT YOUR HEART OUT YOU JUST LOST A VERY VALUABLE PLAYER!

Posted by: STEVE on February 17, 2008 1:26AM EST
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

EXACTLY WHAT WE NEEDED, WE WILL BE TAKING THE STEP FORWARD THIS SEASON THAT WE LOOKED SO CLOSE TO TAKING BEFORE CRUMBLING FOR A MONTH BECAUSE WE LACKED A POINTGUARD!!!!!!!!

Mike Bibby is COLDBLOODED. He is great at pushing and controlling the tempo, he gives us a veteran leader that knows how to win and has competed at the highest level....... he is the one thing we desperately needed: A VERY GOOD POINTGUARD! Another thing we really needed that he gives us is VERY GOOD PERIMETER SHOOTING, and another option in the clutch besides JJ. He will make his teammates better, take alot of pressure off of Joe Johnson, give us another playmaker, a pointguard that Woody will trust, an efficient floor general that does a good job running the offense.... and he can mentor Acie (Same type of PG in college that Bibby's been in pro's) if Acie is capable (Which I think he will be, but admit remains to be seen)....

THIS IS PERFECT! EXACTLY WHAT WE NEEDED, THE ONE THING WE REALLY REALLY NEEDED! AND WE DIDNT GIVE UP ANY OF OUR 6 BEST PLAYERS!!!!

THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!

Bibby-Johnosn-Williams-Smith-Horford with Chillz as 6th man and Zaza at the 5 off the bench and Law as backup pg.......

WOW THESE HAWKS ARE GONNA BE EVEN MORE FUN TO WATCH!!!!!! THIS IS GONNA BE REAL GOOD!!!!!

WHAT A GREAT DAY!!!

Posted by: Mitch on February 17, 2008 1:33AM EST
As much as you hate to see the number of quality players that were traded today leave, Bibby is a guy who can help us win now, and in the near future. The Hawks haven't been to the playoffs in nine years, and, with the team closer to the playoff picture then we have been in years, this is a move that needed to be done. We kept our core group, and got a guy who can get us to the playoffs in 2008. Hopefully, the team will head on the West Coast trip, play decently, and find a way the rest of the season, to get to the 38 to 40 win plateau, that should be enough to make the East playoff picture.

Posted by: jerrie on February 17, 2008 1:34AM EST
bibby was the outstanding player of the kings he still is the outstanding player should still be a sacto player thank you mike for all the years you but us in the playoffs i will follow you all the way i was a king fan now im a hawk fan you are my player now and always you been my player since you come to the kings you are the greatest player in basket ball i will miss your happy smile bad bad trade good luck

Posted by: joseph on February 17, 2008 1:40AM EST
Phoenix Suns East, dare I say?

(Ive been sayin since 2nd half of last season that if we landed a real good pointguard that push/control the tempo for our great/athletic young talent that we would be like the eastern version of the Suns)..... PS- Al Horford is a hell of an addition as our inside monster young talented athletic bigman since I first said that.

Posted by: Chris Webber on February 17, 2008 1:43AM EST
I think so it worth a try, but i doubt the hawks will make the playoffs. I think so this is like a quick fix... trust me Bibby's days are behind him. Made big mistake not drafting CP3 or Deron.

Posted by: Lester on February 17, 2008 4:33AM EST
I believe it is a stupid move from the kings part. But i can care less cause i am a HUGE HAWKS FAN.I LIVE as a HAWKS FAN i DIE as a HAWKS FAN. This was a great trade from the Hawks part. I will miss Tyronn Lue cause he was the 2nd best man (after childress) coming off the bench.I wont miss AJ as much cause i just dont believe he contributed much to the team except for a few games. I know Mike Bibby would contribute alot more. But i am extremely worried that we may not be able to keep smith, childress and maybe JJ next year cause of salary cap issues. I hope they do whatever they can to keep those 3. But even though we made a great trade i still hate Billy Knight and still will until he can prove himself more. And also those people that are now starting to like the HAWKS cause of Mike Bibby... Dont call yourselves HAWKS FANS cause yall still havent earned it.

Posted by: bILLy on February 17, 2008 5:08AM EST
Awesome trade for the Hawks Mike Bibby is exactly the kind of guy we need running the offense and especially in late game situations where we struggle. We should of gotten Paul or Williams but atleast Knight corrected his mistake and we'll do well in the second half of the season and hopefully do something in the playoffs. I hate to see the closer and AJ go but I think Bibby is worth it.

HAWKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

oh,what a super trade``````````

Posted by: Otis on February 17, 2008 8:57AM EST
Great, Great trade went to my first game in a year the other week when the Lakers came and everyone was saying we needed a real point guard not more role players. Now we need a seven footer and if Billy Knight has finally got a clue what he is doing he will get that 7ft center on the D-league roster that kid from Miss. State. Then let them grow and let me order my playoff tix.

Posted by: Supermo on February 17, 2008 9:30AM EST
Billy Knight GM of the year!

Posted by: Brian on February 17, 2008 10:31AM EST
Bibby for 3 players that warmed up the bench and sometimes didn't even suit up and okay PG. Shelden was a bust in his first game... why oh why didn't we take Brandon Roy or Rudy Gay?

Posted by: Adrian on February 17, 2008 10:34AM EST
This trade may have saved Billy and Woody's Job. Good trade! We finally got a point guard. Now we need to get rid of Speedy.

Posted by: Brian on February 17, 2008 10:34AM EST
We need Jarvas Varnardo from Miss State ,him and Josh Smith blocking shots would make The Hawks the best defensive team in the league just look at Varnardo's stats the season No. 1 in block w/ like ten crazy!!!

Posted by: Brian on February 17, 2008 10:36AM EST

I don't know if this is the point guard Hawks wanted. I mean this guy is a scoring point guard. His not a pass first guy, but lets see how this works out.

I've been a kings fan for 7 years and this is a good trade, yes it's going to be sad seeing Mike go, but we get a whole bunch of good players. Good trade

Best of luck in Atlanta Mike

I'm glad that the Hawks got Bibby. I really didn't like AJ or Lue anyway, plus I want to see Acie get more playing time and really see what he can do at the next level.

Finally!! Give up nothing, get a veteran stud point guard, wow, going to miss the AJ, Lue, Wright, but come on She. Williams is a joke, did he build a house with all of his bricks he threw up this year, now we have to steal two wins from Sac in the coming weeks. Williams you are a joke, an absolute 1st round joke, you cannot do anything except stand in the lane and occ. get a rebound, show some heart you goon, good luck in Sac. because they will eat you up and spit you out, wow, I am so glad you are leaving....

U would hate to lose Tyronn Lue since he was good bench player for hawks but overall the trade was good.
u get a nice PG who can help out Joe Johnson score.

wow...... this sucks so much for Sacramento. What the hell were you thinking getting rid of Bibby!!! He is the key to our team!! They are going to go into a slump with him gone! Beno is the WORST guard of all time! What was Goeff thinking!! Bibby is so important to Sacramento! He doesn't know what hes doing!! This is a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE trade on the Kings part... great trade on Atlanta's part though. There is officaly NO stars left on the Kings when they were in their glory years! Why would you do that to the fans of Sacramento!

T-Lue was all heart and did everything the Hawks asked of him. Best of luck, dude! That being said, this is an outstanding trade for the Hawks. When I first heard about it I thought they must have traded foe Henry Bibby!!

great trade....... sheldon williams suck, lorenzin wright old, tyrone lue is still good but gettin old, anthony johnson is old, and sheldon sucks ,,, oh already said that... but u still better find a way to keep josh childreess and josh smith. they are great players. as long as u keep joe, josh, josh, al, aci, mario (deffense) and marvin. everybody else is tradable.... keep them.. and mike bibby... now u gotta think bigger than just the play offs.... maybe championship.

Finally !!!!! We get a quality PG and don't have to give up any of our core young guns. SWEET !!!! Go Hawks ! Is Claxton anywhere close to being able to play ?

Posted by: kevin michael jordan on February 17, 2008 11:54AM EST
oh yeah... now pick up the tallest, strongest free agents. 2 of them........ cuz now u have no big men... well really u neva did.. starting line up.... mike bibby, jo johnson, marvin williams, josh smith al horfard, and 6th man of the year josh childress.

I would have liked the trade much better if T.Lue was not in the mix. He will be missed. How can you not like the heart and heroic's of a guy who often comes through in the clutch for the Hawks. But face it..... the Hawks are top heavy in Guards and in the category of Points (which T. Lou actually is not) there is much inconsistant play. If the Hawks are to truly make the play-offs this year and be a legitimate contender they had to shake up the roster and let loose some popular and good players. This makes since from that stand point and they get a terrific Point in Bibby who is a proven player...period!!!!! Best wishes to Lou, A.J. and especially Seldon who never really got a real chance under the Woodson system which gets these "High Draft" picks and then sits them on the bench for years before they finally get some credible playing time. They are lucky to get 15 mnutes a game under Woodson (look back at the Josh'es, Marvin, Salim, Zaza, ect..... Horford is the first High pick to get real playing time under Woodson and look at his great development....playing time equals steady development!!!!!! If you are not going to play these much needed high draft picks and highly talented playerson your losing team... then why pick them? By the way, I like Woodson and want him to be successful but truthfully he is the greatest move that needs to be made next. The writing is on the wall if the Hawks is to move to the next level..... Need a better Coach.

Look. This is one of the best deals. We got a somebody for 3 nobodies and our 7th man in Tyronn Lue. The only good thing about Shelden is that he brings Candace Parker to Atlanta. That's it. Lorenzen is starting to age and doesn't get playing time anyway. I will miss AJ though, as he stepped up this year after not wanting to be traded here in the first place. Finally, Billy Knight makes a good decision. We should throw a party.
