New Newness All Around Hawktown

You may have noticed some changes today on
Hawks.com. In addition to changing
up the look of the team colors and jerseys, we have also revamped the front page
of the website.
We are pretty excited about the changes - in particular, the larger picture
size on the main image, which should give us some great options for photography
once the season gets underway. We also have a new calendar, which I'll admit
doesn't look too impressive now but will look much cooler once the season starts
with color logos for each game instead of just text.
Overall, its a much cleaner look with less to navigate. Let us know what you
think!
On a related subject, I'd like to weigh in on the
new look for the franchise
for 2007-08. I have read a lot of the commentary about the new unis out on the
Internets, and though people seem mostly positive, I have seen the critique that
says the new threads are ho-hum, and nothing to be excited about.
To that, I say...exactly. By no means am I agreeing that they are boring, but
to me what is so great about them is their simplicity.
Call
me old fashioned, but I say the best jerseys out there in the NBA are the ones that
don't try to do too much. Imagine if the Celtics had joined the fray in the 90's
and put together some monstrosity like the
Cavs,
Rockets,
or even ours (see right).
Now let's say they introduced
their current look
(which they've had forever, but follow me here for the sake of the argument).
Would you be blown away? Probably not, it's a simple green jersey with block
white lettering. The same thing goes for the current Bulls unis as well - they
are great because they are so simple.
To me, that's what the Hawks' new jerseys nailed - it's a very simple,
three-color look (using colors that aren't going anywhere for awhile, by the way
- no teal on
these) that is straight old school with just a touch of new-school
design.

New logos look good. The new uniforms all likely sell but it starts with if the product is vastly better than those previously assembled. I hope that this change is not short lived and BK blows up the draft. Coach Woodson release the reigns on the young talent and let's see how explosive an offense we really have. Marvin, come into camp in shape and ready to work. Speedy please live up to your contract. Joe and Josh help is coming.

I agree that simple = good, but it's a little disappointing that there isn't anything that makes them unique. Yellow + Black + Red was unique, for sure. The Bulls and Celtics both have simple unis, but they are still different from the rest of the league. This is a step in the right direction, though- I don't think anybody will hate on these jerseys.

i agree the layout of the jerseys are really nice, and like you say: simple is effective- but like matt says its the colours that give identity/ uniqueness- don't you think these colours are a little to similar to new jerseys?

I'm glad the Hawks are trying to change their image... that's all well and grand, but the best marketing tool is a winning team, and I'd really like to see the Hawks do well. I'd like to see a winning team - the one true marketing tool there is. I don't care what the unis or jerseys look like... they could be pink with purple polka dots for all I care - the only thing that matters is seeing a winning team... one that wins consistently, makes the playoffs, and does well year to year. That is the most important change the Hawks can make if they want to become a true a-list NBA franchise. It's like the big screen at Turner Field... sure, at first, people may come to see it, but then they've see in already and it doesn't get them to come out again... you have to put a winning product on the field / court... you can have the best marketing campaign in the world, but no one will want to come if the Hawks continue to be attached to the stereotype of a team that never wins. Last season was an improvement over the previous season, so I just hope we can build on that and maybe even raise another banner to compliment the Thrashers Division Championship banner. It's been WAY too long since there's been a new banner in The Omni or Philips... that's something I'd like to see and not just on the Thrashers or Force side.

I like the uni's. The secondary logo needs to be the primary logo. Dump the current primary logo.

Our new uniforms bode well for the '07-'08 season. The Falcons, you may recall, didn't do too badly after redesigning their uniforms (two changes, two playoff appearances). The new look is clean, bold, and strong -- a big improvement over the current model. Congratulations, Atlanta Spirit, for a job well done!

I know there are rumors of us getting Amare but theres also a rumor that we may get Garnett. Amare's knees are too much of a risk, he was out the majority of last season. We NEED Garnett, if we get him and possibly Mike Bibby from free agancy we are in the playoffs no doubt

I just wished you kept the Yellow in there somewhere. I thought you guys were going to do something with the pac-man symbol. I really liked the retro jersey worn by Dominique.

I am a Mac user, and something's not right with the Home Page. When I go to articles, everything looks normal. I'm hoping the Webmaster can look into this, or get back to me. I noticed that the Lakers and Knicks websites look new and similar, but have no problems with the Home Page.

I like the uniforms alot. i like navy as a color, and its cool and unexpected. Also, the lettering and the lines make it look futuristic.
but the silver replacing the yellow on the primary logo makes the hawk look like its freezing cold. and the secondary logo looks to "we took this from the thrashers"
and i semi-agree with the dude that said they look like Nets unis

I've downloaded an update that fixed my problem. I guess that means the updated website is using the very latest technology, and that's good. I like the new uniforms/logos. I just hope it translates into a higher level of play.

Its not bad, but I really didn't dislike the old uniform (atleast the colors were unique). As long as its not that horrible green uniform from way back, or that uniform Dikembe is shown wearing with the big red Hawk across the chest. Haha that was horrible.

Sure the new uniforms aren't flashy, which I agree is a good thing. My beef is with the colors. Why the change? There is enough blue out there. Keep the red and gold.

I don't really like the new color scheme. I've always known the Hawks as red white and yellow. I guess I can learn to live with it if we have a good team...

The new unis will definitely take some time to grow on me but I think its a good business move. It will co-ordinate with my braves hat perfectly. Maybe for an alternate jersey the front could have just ATL like PHX in Phoenix. I think our enitre city would embrace that.

Yeah i like the logo and the unis. The color is better for sure. The thing i would be concerned about would be the fact that nobody is buying hawks jerseys these days. Maybe we should be concerned with more important issues. Like why every draft that has been a success we have traded. With the new look i think there should be a new coach. Brown is good but he isnt a guy that will mold new talent into superstardom. Just a though.
