Hawks Introduce Horford And Law
Posted by: Micah Hart on July 2, 2007 at 4:50PM EST

Earlier today at Philips Arena the Hawks introduced their two newest members as Al Horford and Acie Law joined Hawks GM Billy Knight at the podium to meet the press.

Both guys said all the things you'd expect them to say: they are excited to be here, they are looking forward to the opportunity to play in Atlanta, etc. I don't mean that as a bad thing; I found both guys to be thoughtful and articulate, they just didn't really provide any head-turning commentary or start any controversy.

To me, the highlight of the whole event was watching Horford's little brother Christian (right) run around after the press conference was over, zeroing in on various TV station microphones and trying on his big brother's new jersey. He may only be a couple years old, but I'd say he has tremendous upside.

Anyway, if you'd like to feast your eyes on the entirety of the presser, we have video of it.

In addition, I caught up to both Horford and Law for a couple minutes afterwards. I wanted to ask Al about his decision to return for his junior year, and I got to ask Acie about the knock on his abilities as a point guard.

So both new draft picks are now officially Hawks (relatively speaking, they can't sign contracts until July 11th), and now will go about getting themselves adjusted to life in Atlanta as they get ready for Summer League workouts which get underway next week.

Welcome to the ATL, guys.

I CAN'T LISTEN TO THE INTERVIEWS. Is it me or is it happening to everybody. NE good job and let's go HAWKS.

The team will make great strides in the 07-08 season. I predict Horford will be rookie of the year and Law will be the best rookie pg. Right now the Hawks have a team capable of winning the Eastern Conference. Great draft! I give BK an A+ for doing a great job with these selections.

hopefully BK doesn't make any stupid trades or free agent signingd.

Josh Smith will have a much stronger year (20pt 10reb 3ast 2stl 3blk season, anyone?) will work well with Horford in the frontline.

Joe Johnson and Acie will blend well together, both will have enough unselfishness between them to make everybody else better (each guy will average at least 5 asts)

Marvin will make great strides, showcasing his athleticsm and great attitude, while J Chill will contine to be his reliable self, doing the little things, always good for team chemistry.

Shelden will be the solid bruiser off the bench, always dependable, a rock.

ZaZa will continue to score some, rebound some, and never block for a 7 footer.

The back-up point guard contingent will continue to be injury plagued with Anthony Johnson perhaps being the healthiest.

Solomon Jones might surprise, who knows?

This is the best I've felt about our team after a draft in a long time. Let's just hope Woody can let us score more than 94 ppg. How he is still the coach after 3 seasons and only 69/246 win/loss record I can only wonder. That's stranger than passing on CP3. God help us!

way 2 go hawks with a wonderful draft night but now its time to get down to business with the free agency.............GET DARKO and star him..a preview of the line-up
1.Darko
2.horford
3... smith
4.joe johnson
5.acie LAw

CHEZ, are u serious, DARKO, he is so sorry. Even the Detroit Pistons could fix him and the detroit pistons are made of guys who weren't accepted ne where else. I say there is nothing to get for the Hawks in the free agency this year, because there are not many good centers in the free agency. Either we get Kevin Garnett, Amare Stoudemire, or we wait till next year when Tim Duncan and other low post threats are available.

Good Job Hawks,
We have a good team that can play an up and down offense such as the Suns. 4 quick is the way to go Mike Woodson, a 4 quick offense.

Go Hawks!!!! this team is a playoff contender for next season good core, good draft, how about signing free agent Craig Bradshaw whos playing summer league for the Hawks to sure up the front court he would better value thean Darko. Watch him during summer league and you'll see, let me know how what you think of him if you see him play

atlanta add the big center that orlando let go. study the film of the playoffs last year and see how he handled the middle of that floor offensively and defensively. inside he was hard to guard, he got rebounds and he drew fouls.

Go figure all the blog comments were about whether or not they should take YI or conley in the draft and they end up with neither of them. I dont get the hordford pick. they are both low risk low reward picks like drafting two veteren role players.

RE-SIGN SLAVA MEVIPITINCO

Posted by: William on July 5, 2007 9:25PM EST
The only person we should CONSIDER to resign is Royal Ivey.

The hawks will make the playoff finally 07-08

Posted by: Ric on July 8, 2007 11:59AM EST
Hawks should stay in the position for the up coming 07-08 season because free agency like Tim Duncan and so on, if they stay healthy and JJ becomes a top 5 scorer an J-Smoove becomes a 15pg 10rbs 5asst 2 blk avg this 07-08 season ZAZA 14pg 10 rbs they will be set

marvin and a. johnson for Yi!!!

Posted by: kyang on July 9, 2007 8:03PM EST
Hawks will kick themselves for not drafting Yi at #3. From summer league play, Yi is clearly a major star in the making. Plus, Hawks will miss so much revenue, not helping Atlanta's bid to get a direct China flight and a Chinese consulate, and trade. From both business and basketball perspectives, bad decision, which explains why Hawks has been bad for such a long time.

I think so our big boy Hortford and A-Law w'll make the difference this year.....07-08 Hawks w'll fly hard and fast in the court.

You cant base somebody's career off of two lucky summer leauge games. He not playin against anybody and did you see him get dunked on by rudy gay. NASTY!!!!!! Dont run your mouth kyang before you give horford a chance to prove himself. You will see on friday when rocky mountain starts.

Thank You DA Truth,
I heard that the Knicks were pushing him around today and he only had 3 points.
