Hawks Hang Tough, Head To Cleveland
Posted by: Micah Hart on November 22, 2008 at 12:18AM EST
Here is what I like about this Hawks team so far this season. Generally speaking, they find a way.

In games against Oklahoma City, Washington, and now Charlotte, the Hawks let inferior teams hang around too long and nearly let the win slip away. And yet, they didn't. Whereas in the past the Hawks might have lost at least one if not several of those games, this year's squad has kept its poise, played tough D when it mattered, and hit clutch shots down the stretch to come away victorious.

Yeah, I wish these games had been 20-point blowouts (Josh Smith or no Josh Smith), but a one-point margin of victory counts just as much 30.

It is possible that playing down to the level of the opposition will come back to bite this team in the rear at some point. At the same time, the lessons learned by winning ballgames in the final minutes will come in handy, no matter who the competition is.

In the meantime, the Hawks pick up a second straight home win, running their mark to 4-1 at Philips on the season. Joe was pretty much Joe (30 points and 8 assists), Bibby was Bibby (three huge 3's in the fourth quarter to keep the Hawks in front), and for the second straight game, Marvin Williams was a difference maker.

Posting his second straight double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, Marv got most of his points around the basket while mixing in a couple jumpers and what is quickly becoming his trademark this season, the dagger three from the corner in a late-game situation.

Seriously, if Marvin can keep this kind of effort up, even proportionally, when Josh Smith gets back? This team could be really dangerous.

Congrats on the win guys - go get 'em tomorrow night in Cleveland.

The Hawks need to fix their offense. There are too many isolation/post up plays run which makes the offensive flow stagnant. Joe goes on on 3 way too much which leads to so many turnovers. Same with flip. We have too much offensive talent to look like this on a regular basis. We just need to totally scrap the Zaza & Horford post up because it usually end in a tough or bad shot. Our point guards should be setting the table 80% of the time and they are not. Please Woodson fix this thing!

We lost the Clevland game tonight. I am troubled by the number of jump shots the Hawks are taking. I don't mind a jump shot on a drive and kick, but were just shooting jumpers early in the clock for no reason. We need to get to the foul line more often and make the other team work harder on defense. We play our best when we do this.

Fatigue, Tired, I understand....But god damn!!(excuse my language)
I got so emotional in that game that I kept turning it sayin I was done then ended up turnin it back.
Defense was good but offense was horrible. Too many jumpshots early in the game. They seemed out of sinc with eachother.
They can beat the cavs, they beat new orleans"AT HOME" (just sayin)
Just regroup and mark this as a game to buil up on and forget .
Still love yal but you gotta come harda than that especially if the opponents got home court advantage!

well to answer tonymic post, we have to get us some easy baskets on the inside and when we get to the playoffs we better have someway to score in the paint or its a quickout. and hawksgirl no one wants to use fatigue as an exscuse but damn the schedulers really spreaded our spincster muscles, out of the 13 games 10 road games and 5 of those being back to back. oh well maybe that means they will be sweet to us at the end of the season.

Um...I don't know what all you guys are throwing a hissy fit about, it's just the start of the season! 82 games is a long journey my friends, especially for the Hawks...we are currently in the top 5 in the East with the Bucks (without their best player) and Wizards comin' up and Smoove will be back after Thanksgiving next week. Hawks need to take care of their easy games, and relax. See fans, we're so use to losing, we're already complaining and punching the panic button.

AGAIN, WE HAVE THE WIZARDS, BUCKS, KNICKS AND GRIZZLES COMING UP! We're fine, we just have to play hard every game like it's our last and stop falling in love with the jump shot.

POSITIVES:-)
*The bench outscored the starters.

*Othello Hunter scored in a few seconds.

*Acie Law was the spark the Hawks needed in the first half.

*Mo Evans helped Acie with the spark by getting rebounds and scoring.

*Thanks to the bench, the team only got beat by 14 points instead of the 20+ points that they were losing by most of the game.

*Big Al came alive in the second half when playing with the bench.

NEGATIVES:-(

*JJ only scored 4 points.

*Not enough rebounds and second chance shots in the first half and part of the third quarter.

*Our starters didn't look like the great players that started the season and almost beat Boston.

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE:-() :-()

*The Cavaliers gotta come to the Phillips Arena on December 13th.

*Lebron James doesn't run the A Town as he obviously does in Cleveland.

*Never knew Lebron whined like a bitch to the refs to get fouls. Damn his team was winning by a margin and this fool still was tripping. He's now on my lil bitches in the nba list.

*J SMOOVE SHOULD BE BACK IN THE LINE UP COME DECEMBER. (Yeah, the fun is over for any team taking advantage of the no Smoove situation)
