It's 49-40 Celtics at the half. A few thoughts on what we've seen in the first 24 minutes:- We need to get Mike Bibby going and soon. Bibby only has 2 points on 1-5 shooting, which isn't great but isn't terrible, but he hasn't been able to get his teammates going yet either as he has but one assist. The Hawks in general need to do a better job sharing the basketball, as they have only 8 assists on 15 made baskets.
- Joe started slowly, but came on strong as the second quarter wound down to finish the half with 9 points and 5 assists. The Celts are pretty much double-teaming him at every turn, so as long as he keeps finding his open teammates it's something we can live with.
- Al Horford has been the biggest recipient of the attention to JJ and Bibby, as he is 4-5 from the field and has 11 points to lead the team.
- Foul trouble cost Josh Smith the second quarter, but with 4 fouls to work with I anticipate seeing him much more after halftime.
- The Hawks have to do a better job guarding the perimeter, as the Celtics are 5-7 from downtown. I don't think they can keep that pace up over the course of the game, but each one they've hit has drawn a huge reaction from the home crowd.
- I know the Hawks have been down for all but a few seconds of this game so far, but I feel good about how they've played overall. They aren't getting blown out, and though I realize that's a lame goal to try to achieve, in my opinion it's the first step to getting a victory in one of these games in Boston. The crowd calmed down a good amount after the opening salvo, and the Hawks had a couple nice runs that took the crowd out of it for several minutes. I'd love to see Atlanta come out strong to start the second half and close the gap to a one or two possession game, and then we'll see what happens.
