I'm not positive, but I think I can remember the exact day when it occurred to me that Al Horford was having the kind of season that deserved Rookie of the Year consideration. It was against the Sonics back on January 25, when Big Al notched one of his typical double-doubles, going for 10 points and 16 rebounds in a 99-90 Hawks win.

I already knew Horford was having a good season before then; he'd won Rookie of the Month honors for November after all. But in watching him play in the same game as Kevin Durant, and watching Durant struggle to adjust to the league, it dawned on me the situation that was at hand. Namely, that Durant was most likely going to win Rookie of the Year honors despite the fact that Horford was having a much better all-around season.

In that time, nothing that has happened has changed my mind. Horford continues to help lead the Hawks to a playoff berth, leading all rookies in rebounds, double-doubles, and efficiency in the process.

I still think Horford should win Rookie of the Year, I still think he is playing better than Durant, and I still am sad that Durant will probably win the award.
